Outdoor Education - Primary
We understand being outdoors is a fantastic way for young people to improve their health, wellbeing and learning, setting them on a pathway to happy, healthy and environmentally sustainable lifestyles. All our young people at the primary site have outdoor education timetabled weekly. Our curriculum is designed around 3 pathways; A sense of adventure, creating and construction and sustainability. Young people will experience bushcraft, orienteering, fishing and growing fruit and vegetables. We utilise green areas on our school sites as well as green spaces and facilities in our local community.
Duke of Edinburgh - Secondary
Young people at the secondary site have the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh programme. The DofE is a life-changing experience. An opportunity to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement, respected by employers.
The DofE is many things to many people, supporting generations to successfully navigate adult life.
14-24 year-olds can do a DofE programme at one of three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, leads to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Any young person can do a DofE programme – regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Achieving an award isn’t a competition or about being first. It’s all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.
Through a DofE programme young people have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing CVs and university and job applications. Top employers recognise the work-ready skills award holders bring to their business.
Our students have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh programme as part of our curriculum offer.
